Background & Training

Dr. Spertus has a PhD in Clinical Health Psychology and is clinically and academically trained. She has over 20 years of experience starting with highly specialized training in behavioral medicine at the University of Chicago’s Pain Management Center, the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, and traumatic stress at the National Center for PTSD at the Boston VA. 

Dr. Spertus developed the Women’s After Trauma Care Health (WATCH) program at Mount Sinai School of Medicine and later the Columbia Anxiety and Traumatic Stress (CATS) program for the NYPD after 9/11 at Columbia University.  She has provided supervision and training to clinicians, in-services for the military, law enforcement personnel and corporations. Dr. Spertus primarily works in her private practice now and remains passionate about education continuing to support students from SUNY Purchase in their research and careers.
